Pastor James & Lady Ethel Carr

Pastor James Edward Carr Jr. is a devoted servant of God, a compassionate leader, and a third-generation pastor committed to guiding others in faith, purpose, and spiritual growth. He is the son of the late Willie Smith and the late James Edward Carr Sr., whose enduring legacy continues to inspire his life and ministry.

A proud graduate of Westview High School, Class of 1979, Pastor Carr distinguished himself early on through outstanding athletic ability in both track and football. In 1981, he furthered his education at Kankakee Community College, earning an Apprenticeship Accreditation in Construction & Trades. With a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, he went on to build and operate a successful business for over 30 years— demonstrating consistency, discipline, and leadership both in and outside of ministry.

Pastor Carr also answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy, from which he received an honorable discharge. The values of integrity, perseverance, and commitment developed during his military service continue to shape his leadership and ministry today.

In 2010, Pastor Carr embraced his divine calling and became the pastor of Redeeming Life Ministries in Kankakee, Illinois. In January 2011, he preached his first sermon as pastor—marking the beginning of a “leading by example” ministry devoted to serving God’s people and advancing His kingdom.

As a devoted husband to Ethel O. Carr and a proud father of four sons, Pastor Carr leads with strength, humility, and unwavering faith. His mission is to uplift and serve communities, strengthen believers, and lead souls toward redemption through the transformative power of God’s Word.

He remains deeply grateful for the spiritual foundation laid by his mother and for the mentorship of Pastor Rollo Cobb and Dr. Angie Ray, whose guidance has helped shape his journey. Pastor Carr also extends heartfelt appreciation to all who continue to support and honor his family’s legacy.

Beyond the pulpit, Pastor Carr continues to honor the extraordinary legacy of his father, the late James Carr—widely recognized as one of the greatest soul singers of all time. In tribute to his father’s life and impact, Pastor Carr authored a book reflecting on his legacy and influence. In 2016, he attended the induction ceremony in Memphis, Tennessee, where his father was honored with induction into the Music Hall of Fame, and he proudly received the award on his father’s behalf.

Through Redeeming Life Ministries, Pastor Carr continues to proclaim the Gospel, inspire transformation, and serve as a vessel of hope, restoration, and purpose— faithfully advancing the work of the Lord as the ministry moves forward in alignment with Mark 16:20.
